About Julia Child
Julia had two siblings and she was the oldest of them all. She had one brother named John and one sister named Dorothy. Julia Child married Paul Cushing Child on September 1, 1946. They met in the summer of 1944. Paul was 41 and Julia was 31 at the time they met. Some of her nicknames were Juke, Juju and Jukies. Julia’s favorite comfort food was red mean and gin. Her favorite saying is “Boutez en Avant” which means “charge ahead” in french. She wrote 18 books in her lifetime from 1961-2006. Her last book was published after her death. Julia is known for bringing French food to the American public. She was the first woman admitted into the Culinary Institute Hall of Fame in 1993. She received many awards in her lifetime. One of the awards was “Best National Television Cooking Show.” Public television aired Julia’s first cooking program in 1963. Her show was named Baking with Julia. In 1989, Julia’s husband suffered a stroke and had to go live in a nursing home. Julia became lonely but she coped with her loneliness by exercising, writing, doing public speaking and working on television programs. When Julia was 81 years old, Paul died. He was 92 years old when he passed away. Julia was very saddened by his death but she still managed to write another book and release a new television series all in the course of two years. She died two days before her 92nd birthday in 2004 due to kidney failure. She passed away in her assisted-living home in Montecito.
